DTN COMMENTS: A scattered trade is being reported in parts of Nebraska
at mostly $360, $2 higher than last week's weighted average. A Regional
has paid as much at $365 dressed for some steers in Central Nebraska set
to deliver the week of June 9th. Asking prices in most areas remain not
fully established, a few more bids are now on the table. The South
remains very quiet at this point.
Today's slaughter totaled 120,000 head, 1,000 more than last week, but
3,000 below a year ago. Live cattle futures closed modestly to moderately
higher, up 22 to 97, while feeders ended the day mostly sharply lower,
off 132 to up 30, the soon to expire spot month was the only one to close
higher. Beef cutouts are expected to close higher with light to moderate
box movement.
